Nzoia Sugar head coach Salim Babu is over the moon that his side that was seen as an underdog at the start of the season is firmly in the Kenyan Premier League title race, with only four matches to go.

Nzoia comfortably edged Kakamega Homeboyz 2-0 in a league match assignment played at Bukhungu Stadium on Sunday, to remain third with 60 points - only four behind leaders Tusker FC.

It also moved them to within three points of second place after Gor Mahia dropped points in their 2-1 defeat in the Mashemeji Derby played on Sunday at the Nyayo National Stadium.

Babu is thus hopeful that they can shock Tusker and Gor if they win all their remaining matches.

“We said that we want to compete, and so far we have given a good account of ourselves, the fighting spirit is alive and we want to keep pushing, we want to win all the remaining four matches, we have two games at home and we want maximum points, we want to win the League title,” Babu told Citizen Digital.

Babu is bullish his boys will beat their next opponents in the league, Kariobangi Sharks.

"We want to keep winning our matches, and it's good we will be resting the coming weekend (as the weekend will be dedicated for FKF Cup semis) before we play Kariobangi Sharks at home. By the time we play them, we hope our three key players who are sidelined with injuries will have recovered. It should be an easy win for us at home," he noted.

Nzoia have punched above their weight this season despite their financial struggles and is in contention for the title against the deep-pocketed Gor and Tusker who arguably enjoy massive financial backing.
