Former Malkia Strikers captain Trizah Atuka has spoken out following her omission from the team that will be presenting Kenya in the FIVB Women’s World Championship scheduled to run from August 22 to September 7.
The Kenya Pipeline ace who was crowned the
best middle blocker in the recently concluded Africa Club Championship in Abuja
was full of praise for the new generation of players that have emerged.
While Speaking to Citizen Digital, the 2016
KVF Most Valuable Player (MVP) says that the technical bench made their decision
which she accepts.
“Kenya has a lot of talent. The technical
bench named a squad that is strong,”
“I am not driven just to be in the
national team. I play for passion, whether at the club or national level, all I
want to do is play, enjoy, and win.”
Atuka now shifts her focus to her club career
where she will continue Pipeline’s quest for the seventh Africa Club
Championship title.
While reflecting on their season, she
emphasized how winning the league was important for them after continental
heartbreaks.
“It’s been a tough season for Pipeline. We did
not begin well,” she reflected.
“Losing the Zone V title was a blow,
especially because we were the defending champions.”
“Our goal of clinching the club championship
title was not met. So finishing the season strong and reclaiming the KVF title
meant a lot for us.”
Atuka who is full of praise for the new faces
wished them the best but also cautioned them on the demanding task of
representing the country.
“I wish them the best. I’m glad they’ll be getting the exposure. They are talented, but they need to work extra hard to get good results, results that Malkia Strikers have produced in the past,” averred Atuka.
