Athletes begin collecting bibs ahead of Chepsaita Cross Country set for Saturday
Hundreds of
athletes from Nandi County today thronged Eliud Kipchoge Sports Complex to
collect their bib numbers and T-shirts ahead of the Great Chepsaita Cross-Country
race to be held on December 7 in Uasin Gishu County.
According to
event director Kennedy Tanui, more than 10,000 athletes have registered to participate
in the Chepsaita Great Run, a highly anticipated athletic event that brings
together passionate, talented young and senior athletes to showcase their
abilities and get discovered.
Tanui said that
registration exercise has been closed .He however revealed that the organizers
have put some measure to register the elite athletes who missed out to register
online. They have put it some standby measures.
‘We have made
arrangements for all of them. Some transport logistics here and there are being
worked on so that all athletes behind here will access the venue. We have made
adequate plans to host them at the venue. All plans are laid down, the final
preparations now picking up. The venue at Chepsaita is quite ecstatic because
everyone is eager to participate.’
The collection
process will continue tomorrow (December 3rd) at the Eldoret Sports Club before
moving to Chepsaita for two days to allow all registered runners to collect
their running numbers ahead of race day on Saturday, December 7th.
Reigning
All-Africa Games 5,000m and Nairobi City Half Marathon champion Robert Kiprop
is among the elite runners who have already collected their running numbers in
Iten.
Meanwhile, in
the women’s U20 category, Alice Chemtai and Abigael Chemngagei are hoping to
rewrite history with podium finishes on Saturday after disappointing
performances in the inaugural race
