APS Bomet, Naivas FC reap big from NSL weekend matches
APS Bomet, Kisumu All Stars and Naivas FC ensured they ended
round 11 of the National Super League (NSL) matches on a high over the weekend.
On Saturday, APS Bomet beat Darajani Gogo 3-2 at the Bomet
Stadium to climb two places to third on the NSL standings with 20 points, three
behind leaders Nairobi United.
APS Bomet have so far won six matches, drawn two and lost
three.
On their part, Nairobi United lost a glorious opportunity to
extend their lead by five points after they were held to a 1-1 draw by SamWest FC,
with second placed Fortune Sacco FC also left frustrated by a draw of a similar
margin against Kibera Black Stars.
Naivas FC who have been having a bad run, hopped from the
relegation zone after a narrow 1-0 win over struggling MCF FC at Kenyatta
Stadium in Machakos County.
Naivas FC are currently 16th on the table with 11 points
after 10 outings.
At Ukunda Showground in Kwale County, visitors Luanda Villa
comfortably registered a 2 -1 win against SS Assad to move up to sixth place on
the log with 16 points.
Speaking to Citizen Digital, SS Assad head coach, Phelix
Ogutu, said the team lacks quality to compete in NSL in addition to having five
first team players injured.
“I can say that I have a weak squad for now mostly due to my
first team injured players, but we need to up our game and win matches before
we think of strengthening our squad,” noted Ogutu.
Elsewhere, at the Raila Odinga Stadium in Homa Bay County,
Kisumu All Stars humiliated their neighbors, MOFA FC, with a 3-1 victory.
MOFA FC striker, George Ogutu, opened the scoring before
Kisumu All Stars turned the tables on them and scored through Amos Okoth, Lefta
Steve and Brian Steve to claim the three points.
Kisumu All Stars leaped from ninth position to seventh on
the log, while MOFA dropped one place to fifth.
At the Serani Sports Club, 3K FC were held to a 1-1 draw by
Mombasa United to drop from the top three spot to land in fourth place.
Mombasa United are now set for another away fixture against
Luanda Villa at Mumboha Stadium in Luanda, hoping to register their first win
in an away outing.
United head coach, Hamadi Said, said it is time to change
their tactics to register positive results.
“We haven't won any match away this season and now we are preparing to have a good game and fight for maximum or one point,” averred Said.
