Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) women’s basketball team assistant coach Brenda Angeshi says she is proud of her team’s accomplishments at the just concluded Africa Women Basketball League in Alexandria, Egypt.

KPA claimed silver at the inaugural event after losing 103-59 to home side Alexandria Sporting Club in the final held Tuesday night.

Despite failing to lift the gong, KPA made history by taking silver.

“Generally I am happy with our performance. We came here with one mission to win or get to the medal bracket of which we did. For the final match all I can say is that the Egyptians did better than us on the shots hence the big gap/ margin but all in all I am happy with our performance,” Angeshi said.

The nine-day competition brought together 10 teams battling for the new-look AWBL that was preceded by the Africa Champions Cup for Women that ASC won last year to lift their first-ever African club title.

The final was a repeat of group A clash which also saw the hosts dominate 102-77.

Equity Hawks lost 83-53 to Nigeria’s Customs in a classification match to place sixth in the tournament.
