FKF-Premier League giants AFC Leopards Secretary General Gilbert Andugu has backed interim head coach Fred Ambani to guide the team to the topflight title this season.

While hailing Ambani for the good job done since taking over in November last year, Andugu has reminded the former Wazito FC—now defunct—tactician to end the 26-year title drought in a bid to return to glory days.

“So far, I can say he has tried, and I still urge him to put in more effort because there are some teams up there on the log standings, and we have to work hard to elbow them—Kenya Police FC, Tusker, Gor Mahia, and KCB—if we want to finish top.

We, however, continue supporting Ambani as he teams up with the technical bench to ensure we lift the title this season. We also need our fans to be fully behind the team and the officials," Andugu said.

According to Andugu, the blue and white club is heading in the right direction.

“The leadership is top-notch under our able chairman, Dr Dan Shikanda, and treasurer, Oliver Napali.

"We are pressing on very well as we await the Annual General Meeting on March 30th before going into our club elections on June 29," Andugu said.

Meanwhile, Andugu announced he would not defend his SG seat in the June 29th elections to focus on his health.

“For now, I have health issues, and because of that, I have told my colleagues that I will not be defending my seat as Ingwe SG.

I want to focus on my health, and that’s why I will be exiting the scene as far as Leopard's leadership is concerned," Andugu added.

Ingwe are in position five on 36 points, nine behind leaders Kenya Police FC, who have played one more game.
