Elizabeth Andiego, Edwin Okongo, and Boniface Mogunde were crowned the best boxers of the year at the 2024 Boxing Federation of Kenya (BFK) Awards, celebrating their remarkable achievements on the global stage.

Andiego clinched the Best Female Boxer of the Year title following her stellar performance at the 2024 Mandela Boxing Cup in Durban, where she secured gold in the ladies' middleweight category.

Her triumph not only highlighted her dominance in the ring but also cemented her status as one of Kenya’s finest female pugilists.

In the men’s category, Edwin Okongo and Boniface Mogunde shared the honors as Best Male Boxers of the Year.

 Okongo’s historic gold medal at the 2024 Africa Games in Accra ended Kenya’s 17-year drought in the middleweight category, a feat celebrated nationwide.

Meanwhile, Mogunde delivered a commanding performance at the 2024 Africa Elite Championships in Kinshasa, claiming gold and breaking East Africa’s seven-year medal drought in the competition.

The event also recognized Kenya’s top boxing teams with Kenya Defence Forces Boxing Team emerging as the Best Team of the Year with a commanding 126 points, while the Nairobi County Boxing Association and Kenya Police Service Boxing Team tied for second with 46 points each.

The awards were a testament to the improvement of Kenyan boxers on the global stage, with the trio of Andiego, Okongo, and Mogunde serving as beacons of hope for the sport’s bright future.
