KCB assistant coach Andrew Amonde has praised his team’s impressive start to the season after they demolished Mwamba RFC 89-12 in their opening match of the Mwamba RFC.

The bankers, who underwent a coaching transition during the off-season with Oliver Mang’eni stepping in as head coach and Amonde taking up the assistant role, have been in scintillating form. Their dominance has been evident in both the Kenya Cup and Enterprise Cup matches.

“Since we started working with the boys, there has been a noticeable change in attitude and their overall outlook,” said Amonde.

“These results are just a reflection of the hard work and sacrifices everyone has made to create a different, more cohesive KCB side. The team is gelling well, putting in the effort, and scoring big. Now, it’s about how they respond to tougher challenges.”

KCB will face Catholic Monks in the quarterfinals, and Amonde has urged his team to maintain their intensity, noting that university teams can be unpredictable.

“We’re up against a university side, and they’re always unpredictable; you never know what to expect. We must stick to what we do best: working hard for each other, covering any shortcomings, and delivering a solid performance,” Amonde explained. “Coming back from the Christmas holidays, everyone will be eager to see how we play, and we intend to deliver a unique game.”

The new coaching duo has also entrusted young players with significant responsibilities and game time. Amonde believes this strategy will benefit the team in the long run.

“We’re building for the future. AndyCole Omollo is a great example of a young player who has stepped up in training, worked hard, and raised the bar for selection. KCB is focused on creating a sustainable team that will remain competitive for years to come. This approach should inspire other young players to seize their opportunities,” he said.

In the other quarterfinal fixtures, defending champions Kabras Sugar will clash with Kenya Harlequin, while Menengai Oilers, fresh off an 80-17 thrashing of Daystar University in the pre-quarterfinals, take on Homeboyz.

Meanwhile, Nondescripts will host South Coast Pirates, who advanced after Kenyatta University’s Blak Blad forfeited their match.
