Former Kenyan international Boniface Ambani feels Posta Rangers are serious title contenders in the current Kenyan Premier League campaign.

Posta are top of the league standings after 12 games with 25points, one above defending champions Gor Mahia.

Ambani says they ‘unlikely contenders’ at the start of the season could pull a surprise, like Leicester City did in the English Premier League, 2016 season.

“Posta are playing good football and no one should underestimate them at all, they have experienced players and a very good coach (John Kamau). They are no doubt serious contenders,” said Ambani.

Posta have posted impressive record so far, winning seven out of their 12 matches. The mail men have lost only once, drawing four times giving them the early season advantage.

They have also posted the strongest goal-difference of positive 11, statistics Ambani thinks could propel them to glory if they sustain the mojo.

Posta will on Saturday take on Nairobi City Stars at the Kenyatta Stadium in Machakos.

Meanwhile, the former AFC Leopards striker has in the meantime lauded Junior Stars for their so far impressive performance in the ongoing CECAFA Under-18 Championship.

“The boys are playing very attractive football and they are getting the necessary support from all the stakeholders. I hope they go on and win the tournament,” added Ambani.

Juniors Stars on Friday thumped Somalia 4-1 to finish top of Group A, with nine points following wins against Sudan and Rwanda respectively.

Ambani however insisted on the importance of continuity beyond the CECAFA tournament, to ensure that the rich talent is not wasted.

“They need to be attached to clubs were they can be monitored and natured properly because they are great talent that should not go to waste.

“After this tournament has ended, the federation needs to make sure has been done because they are the future of Kenya’s football. Talent has never been an issue in Kenya, problem has been harnessing it properly,” he averred.
