Players have now gelled and various stakeholders are playing their roles in the management of the team as required at AFC Leopards, hence the recent resurgence in the Premier League, assistant coach Fred Ambani has said.

Leopards have gone for eight matches without a loss and Ambani is hopeful they will keep improving, having overcome a difficult start to the season which saw former coach Tom Juma sacked after just six matches.

By then, they had failed to register a single win.

Ambani, who deputises Thomas Trucha, however says they still have some ground to cover to hit the levels they desire – urging the players to keep the focus.

“The current form is down to players understanding each and the collective belief in the direction the team wants to take. With patience from our fans, we can now see the fruits of hard work,” said Ambani

Last weekend, they held hosts Kakamega Homeboyz who have been a thorn in their flesh in recent matches to a barren draw, a result the former Kenyan international hailed as impressive.

“In recent times they (Homeboyz) have been normally a very stubborn side especially when playing at home, but we did our assignment very well and the players stuck to instructions. We earned a point in quite a hard ground and we probably would have done more,” added Ambani.

The 12-time Kenyan Premier League champions will next face struggling Nzoia Sugar FC and the former Leopards striker knows how tough it can be to play relegation-threatened sides.

“We will approach the game with the seriousness it deserves. We won’t underestimate them because of their position in the table; we know how dangerous they can be. This is not the time to relent,” stated Ambani.

After 22 games Ingwe are eighth in the league standings with 31 points.
