Aluoch backs Junior Starlets to feature in back-to-back World Cup

Aluoch, who doubles up as the Mathare United Women tactician in the Women’s National Super League, said the experience the team got in their maiden appearance in the Dominican Republic will be crucial in their bid to feature again this year.

Kenya was granted a bye in the opening round of the 2025 FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup qualifiers, but will launch their qualifying campaign against Uganda in March in what promises to be a thrilling encounter.

“I can say that this will be very tough qualifiers because opponents will come strong knowing that Kenya qualified for the World Cup last year. I think our team is still intact, only few changes to replace those who are above 17 years but I believe it is still strong. What we need as a team is to hit the camp early enough and by doing so, we will be ready for any opponent,” she said.

The tie will be contested in two legs, with the first match scheduled between March 7 and 9, and the return leg set for March 14 to 16.

“Uganda are always tough opponents but I’m sure under our head coach Mildred Cheche we will overcome them. We need to win home and away for a chance to reach the next stage of the qualifiers.

“In Kenya we have different age groups teams, from under 15, 17, 20 all the way to the senior team, and that is a big advantage to us because those players who are above 17 they can be easily replaced,” she added.

The Junior Starlets are poised for an exciting battle as they look to secure a spot at the 2025 U17 Women’s World Cup, with both teams eager to represent East Africa on the global stage.
