All systems go as Langat, Chirchir headline Imani Seven Forks Half Marathon
Last year’s champions, Leonard Kipkoech Langat and Evalyne Chirchir will return to defend their titles in the 21KM men’s and women’s races against an eager field of elite and amateur runners.
The local categories will see spirited competition as 2023 winners Silas Muturi and Grace Kinyua look to retain their crowns.
With its theme, “Going Green for Education,” the marathon stands as more than just a race—it’s a commitment to transformative community impact.
Proceeds will fund crucial resources for Imani Christian School, which serves over 200 orphaned and vulnerable children in Embu County.
“Our mission is to provide these children with quality education, food, and support that helps break the cycle of poverty,” said Jim Mureithi, the event manager.
“By participating, athletes and sponsors alike contribute directly to the future of these deserving children.”
This year’s funds will also support new infrastructure for the Junior Secondary School (JSS) curriculum, addressing the urgent need for classrooms.
“We’re aiming to meet the need for JSS transition facilities,” Mureithi emphasized.
“This marathon is a meaningful way to support our youth and help give them a strong start.”
The marathon offers a rewarding prize pool with Ksh150,000 for top finishers in the half marathon and additional prizes down to the top 15, as well as awards for the top three local runners. The 10KM category also promises substantial cash awards.
Isaac Kangongo, a member of the marathon’s planning committee encouraged runners to sign up before registration closes on Saturday.
“We urge athletes to register in large numbers today before the deadline,” Kangongo said.
“Besides running for a cause, participants also have the chance to win significant prize money.”
