All Systems Go Ahead Of Chemususu Dam Half Marathon Launch
The 8th edition of the
Chemususu Dam Half Marathon, themed "Run to Conserve," will be launched
on Thursday in Eldama Ravine, at 9:00 a.m., with registration set to kick off
next week.
This year's marathon is
scheduled for the 11th of November at Eldama Ravine in Baringo County.
According to Matthew Birir, the race director, a significant
number of athletes have expressed their interest in gracing the marathon, with
the athletes required to register for Ksh1000 for individuals and Ksh10,000 for
corporations.
"A number of athletes have called me, showing interest in
competing in the marathon; the winners of last year's edition are among those
eyeing the marathon; the registration will take place in Eldama town and also
online."
Birir says the winners will receive Sh250,000 as a reward, with
the funds raised from the event set to facilitate a number of activities among
them being the establishment of a standard training facility for athletes as
well as donating sanitary towels to the less privileged girls.
"We will also donate sanitary pads to students who drop out of school for lack of the commodity in the whole constituency.
"We will partner with Athletics Kenya and NGCDF to make sure we have a classic training complex."
Before the marathon, the participants will undergo doping tests
to ensure fair competition.
A number of sponsors have come on board to sponsor the race with
the objective of conserving the environment.
"We have also put in place agribusiness ventures to inspire
the locals because we cannot ask people to conserve the environment with
nothing in their pockets.
“Through agribusiness,
we will help farmers earn a living."
The previous champions of the Chemususu Dam Half Marathon were Daisy
Cherotich and Emanuel Kemboi.
