All set for 2025 Kenya Open Boxing Championship

Anticipation is reaching fever pitch as the historic Nairobi Charter Hall prepares to host the highly awaited 2025 Kenya Open Boxing Championship, set to take place from April 16 to 19.

Now in its 75th year, the iconic venue will be the battleground for the nation’s finest boxing talent.

This flagship event on the local boxing calendar will feature top-tier league boxers as well as elite members of the men’s and women’s national teams - including the electrifying Boniface Mogunde, the composed yet deadly six-time light middleweight champion and the likes of Elizabeth Andiego.

According to David Munuhe, the Secretary of the Boxing Federation of Kenya (BFK), preparations are in full swing to deliver a world-class tournament.

“The competition will run for four days and bring together rising stars from the Intermediate Championships and seasoned boxers from top clubs and the national team. It’s both a test of skill and a chance to stake a claim for future national team duties,” Munuhe said.

The event is being organised by BFK in collaboration with the Nairobi County Boxing Association, which will serve as the host county.

Munuhe emphasised the championship’s broader role in nurturing new talent.

“The Kenya Open is not just about crowning champions - it’s a key selection platform. Those who emerge victorious will be considered for provincial squads and given priority in upcoming international competitions. We urge all eligible boxers to participate in accordance with the rules.”

Adding even more edge to the event is the anticipated arrival of red-hot debutants—young guns with a laser focus on upsetting the odds and forcing John “Rule Book” Waweru, BFK’s competitions secretary, to rethink his form book when they clash with the elite.

With pride, prestige, and national team slots on the line, the 2025 Kenya Open promises four explosive days of raw talent, fierce competition, and boxing at its finest.
