All Saints Embu out to defend Term One rugby 15s national title

All Saints High School rugby head coach Benson Mwenda says they are putting in the hard yards in training in readiness to defend their national rugby 15s title.

The East African champions won everything on offer last year, setting phenomenal standards in the rugby 15s, and are hoping to replicate the same this year when the term one school games commence next week.

"We've been preparing well since we reopened schools.

“Maintaining the same momentum has been hard, but we are focused and trying to be ready.

“We had a test match against Upper Hill School, where we lost 17-18, but we learned from our mistakes and are trying to correct them before the school games begin.

So, hopefully, in the next week, we will have polished our team and be ready to kick-start our defense. It's been hard, but we will give our best."

Mwenda says they are trying to replace seven high-profile players who have since departed the squad, saying it hasn’t been a walk in the park replacing them.

"We lost seven guys from our team after last year. We've replaced them with others, but the quality isn't the same.

“We hope that in the test match and the games to come, they will grow and improve to get to where we want them.

“We know every other team will be taking us seriously, but we are ready and committed to giving our best to defend our title."

Having set high standards last year, seeing off rugby heavyweights Butula and the likes of Lenana and Kitondo School, every team will be baying for All Saint’s blood in the regional, national, and East African school games.
