Former
FKF presidential aspirant Tom Alila has challenged the National Parliament to
expedite the enactment of laws that will help arrest match-fixing.
Alila’s
calls come a few days after FIFA ordered Muhoroni Youths FC to be relegated
from the NSL to the FKF Division One League after being found guilty of
match-fixing.
“There
is a problem with this match-fixing thing in the country. The biggest problem
is that there is no law that can be used to fight the vice.
The
parliament needs to work on this as soon as possible. There is a big problem,
and we should admit it.
There
is no act that defines how we can fight this problem. Everybody is crying out
about those who are being alleged to be involved in match-fixing”, Alila said.
According
to Alila, match-fixing has become a threat to the fair game, which infringes on
the justice of football fans on the pitch.
“It’s a
big problem in football as we speak. The Football Kenya Federation should come
out strong to push our members of parliament to come up with something that our
courts can use to punish the culprits of match-fixing.
The
Sports ministry should carry this as a burden on its shoulders until we get the
through pass to help law enforcers and our courts handle these cases of
match-fixing.
FKF
also suspended Kakamega Homeboyz goalkeeper Patrick Matasi for 90 days in March
over match-fixing claims to pave the way for investigations.
Since
Kenya gained independence in 1963, no single law has been enacted to deal with
match-fixing vice, which seems to be spreading like bush fire.
