Aketch promises to "surprise many" with new-look Bunyore Starlets
Bunyore Starlets coach
Nick Aketch is confident that his new-look side has what it takes to challenge
for the Kenya Women Premier League (KWPL) gong this season.
Aketch, who has taken
over from Timothy Ondeko however says his major task is to develop talent, thus
his not bothered by the stiff competition ahead, in the league.
While there is an element
of a setback in the fact that most of the players are new in the team, the
coach also knows the depth of the talent in the unit, which gives him the
confidence.
“I'm handling raw talent after a major
overhaul that left the team with only 20 percent of the players who featured in
the Premier League last season. Their counterparts left together with the
technical bench, so we are having a fresh but very exciting project,” the
former Kisumu Allstars coach said.
“The management have
already signed more players to replace those who left. In the face of this
reality I understand my work is to refine them to their full potential.
Therefore, Bunyore Starlets fans must expect a new playing style that focuses
on building from behind compared to the power play they were used to,” Aketch
added.
The coach has promised to
bring home victory this weekend as they take on Nakuru Queens.
Apart from focusing on beginning
strong this season, Aketch says his objective this season is to have Bunyore
Starlets finish among the top three teams.
“I have already urged
players without necessary travel documents to begin processing them. I'm
confident that we can feature in the continental games, soon. I expect three to
five players to be called in the national team this season from this unit,” he
added, saying they have the potential "surprising many."
Kenya Police Bullets are
the reigning KWPL champions.
