AK sets new dates for African Games, World X-Country trials
The national athletics governing body also set new dates for the National Cross Championships to be held March 2 at the Kenya Prisons Grounds in Ruiru, Kiambu County.
The two events were put off last weekend in honour of world marathon record holder Kelvin Kiptum who died in a car crash alongside his coach Gervais Hakizimana on the night of February 11.
AK is set to use the Nyayo event to pick a team to represent the country during upcoming African Games slated for March 8-23 in Accra, Ghana.
A strong contingent will also be selected during the National Cross Country Championships to fly the Kenyan flag in this World Athletics Cross Country Championships set for March 30 in Belgrade, Serbia.
Meanwhile, at the time of going to press, the chief government pathologist Dr.Johansen Oduor was conducting a post-mortem on the body of the fallen world marathon record holder in Eldoret Hospital.
Oduor was conducting the autopsy exercise assisted by detectives from the Homicide Unit of the Directorate of Criminal Investigations and forensic experts and analysts from the government chemist, with the presence of Kiptum’s family members.
Kiptum is set to be laid to rest at his home in Uasin Gishu County on Friday. His Rwandese coach Gervais Hakizimana is set to be interred on Wednesday afternoon at the Rusororo Cemetery in Kigali.
