AK mandates mandatory testing for athletes before World Championships 2025 selection

Athletics Kenya President, Gen (Rtd) Jackson Tuwei, addressing the media in Nairobi on Wednesday. Tuwei said the 444 athletes identified as probables for the 2025 World Athletics Championships in Tokyo must undertake mandatory anti-doping testing before final selection.

Athletics Kenya (AK) says athletes must undergo mandatory anti-doping testing before selection for the World Athletics Championships in Tokyo, Japan.

AK has released a list of 444 athletes identified as probables for the 2025 Championships, who must undertake at least three no-notice out-of-competition tests prior to the championships, in accordance with World Athletics Anti-Doping Regulations.

“A minimum of three (3) no-notice out-of-competition tests must be conducted throughout the 10-month period from 29 October 2024 to 29 August 2025. The first test must be completed by 24 May 2025. Athletes who do not have at least one no-notice out-of-competition test completed by this date will not be eligible to compete, regardless of the number of tests conducted afterward,” noted AK.

“The final deadline for all out-of-competition tests to be completed is 29 August 2025 at 7pm East Africa Time (EAT).”

Additionally, they are responsible for providing accurate whereabouts information and ensuring all medications and supplements are free from banned substances.

“Ensure that whereabouts information is accurate and up-to-date. Athletes with ADAMS accounts must submit whereabouts through the system and regularly check for updates. Athletes who do not have ADAMS accounts can request one and they will be included in the next education seminar or they have the option to submit their whereabouts using the provided Google Forms link.”

Addressing the media in Nairobi on Wednesday, Athletics Kenya President, Gen (Rtd) Jackson Tuwei, further directed athletes to attend mandatory anti-doping education programs organized by AIU, ADAK, or AK, and to provide accurate whereabouts information.

“Athletes may be invited to attend education seminars and webinars by officers in AK, AIU, or ADAK, and must ensure that they attend all education sessions invited,” AK said.

The Championships will be held from September 13-21, 2025.
