Agnes Ng’etich second as Moraa falters in Grand Slam Opener

Kenya’s Agnes Ng’etich, the 10km world record holder, delivered the top Kenyan performance on Day One of the Grand Slam Track Meet in Kingston, Jamaica, finishing second in the women’s 3,000m in a strong 8:28.75. She was narrowly edged by Ethiopia’s Ejgayehu Taye, who won in 8:28.42.
Hellen
Ekalale, the 2025 10km Road Race winner in Valencia, settled for fourth in
8:42.51 in the same race.
In
the women’s 800m, World Champion Mary Moraa struggled and placed eighth, while
Susan Ejore, a 2024 Olympic finalist, claimed fifth. The race was won by
American Nikki Hiltz, clocking 1:58.23.
In
the men’s 5000m, Olympic silver medalist Ronald Kwemoi came home fifth in
14:40.46, with the USA’s Grant Fisher winning in 14:39.14.
The
Grand Slam meet resumes Saturday night with more Kenyans expected to feature as
the action heats up in Kingston.
