Africa Junior Championships: Blow as Kenyan tennis ace Quadros suffers second straight loss

Kenyan
tennis prodigy Ayaan Quadros suffered a second straight loss at the African
Junior Championships after going down 3-1 to Nigerian Seyi Ebenezer at Nairobi
Club on Tuesday.
Billed as his redemption day following an opening day defeat, Quadros flattered to deceive after he allowed the Nigerian to stage a 3-1 (6-7), (6-1), (6-0) comeback win despite a promising start.
Coming
off a shaky start to the tournament by team Kenya, Quadros looked to give the
hosts a much-needed inspiration for the day, storming to an early hard-fought 6-7
win in the opening set.
The wire-to-wire
set prompted a tiebreaker as the players kept going back and forth, points for
points, with each rally keeping the fans in the stands engaged.
The sets that ensued were, however, exhibited a whole different tale of the tapes as the Nigerian ace kept hounding the Kenyan protégé with intensity, with the return of each serve proving a difficult task for Quadros to keep up.
Team Kenya has struggled to impress in the tournament so far, only registering a win yesterday through Felicia Wasonga.
The
tournament is expected to go on till March 1, as the winners in the singles and
doubles categories are expected to go and represent the continent at the
European Champions for 14 and under players.
The elite
participants in the competition make the tournament highly competitive, with 15
different countries represented.
