AFCON: Situma rallies Harambee Stars to rise to occasion, says match against Zimbabwe will be 'total war'
Former
Harambee Stars defender James Situma says it will be 'total war' when the
national football team clash with Zimbabwe on November 10 in the AFCON 2025
Qualifier.
According
to Situma, who also turned up for AFC Leopards, Tusker, Sofapaka, Mathare
United and Kakamega Homeboyz, the match will paint the true picture of who
might sail through to join Group 'J' leaders Cameroon to AFCON 2025, set for
Morocco.
“Our
fixture against Zimbabwe will without any doubt paint for us a clear picture of
how things could turn out to be,” he explained. “We messed up against Cameroon losing heavily
away 4-1 and a narrow 1-0 loss to them at home in Uganda which condemned us to
a pretty difficult situation.
Had we
forced even one win from them then things could have been different to what we are
facing now.”
Kenya
will face Zimbabwe away before hosting Namibia on November 18 in their last
group match and must win all the two matches and pray Zimbabwe fails to defeat
Cameroon to nail the ticket to Morocco.
Situma
however noted that it will be a tricky encounter since Zimbabwe are aware they
have everything in their hands and will want to avoid defeat against Kenya at
all cost.
“It will
be a must that we start preparing to win those matches, because yes, it is in
their hands to decide which team will qualify.
We find
ourselves in this condition and we can ourselves jump out of it provided we win
the two remaining matches against Zimbabwe and Namibia and now pray that they
don’t win against heavyweights Cameroon,” added Situma.
Cameroon
lead group J with 10 points, two ahead of Zimbabwe while Kenya sit third with 4
points and Namibia sit bottom with no point.
