Acid test for ANU Panthers, Wolfpacks in weekend KNBL assignments

Zetech Sparks in action against ANU Panthers in a women basketball premier match at Nyayo Gymnasium.
Africa Nazarene
University (ANU) basketball teams head coach Michael Oluoch is looking for
redemption in the weekend when both of his teams will be in action in the Kenya
National Basketball League.
ANU Wolfpacks
will be facing Stanbic Shields in the men’s premier league match while
ANU Panthers who haven’t won any match so far will be looking for their first
win of the season when they face heavyweights Kenya Ports Authority (KPA).
Both games
will be played on Sunday at Nyayo Gymnasium, Nairobi.
“The preparation
is going on well, the team looks upbeat and they are in good shape. I am
expecting good outcome from the fixtures and I believe we will get victories
and be able to redeem ourselves,” Oluoch said.
Elsewhere, Zetech
Sparks head coach Maurice Obilo says he doesn’t put his players on any pressure
despite the 100% winning streak from the team. The students will be playing
giants Equity Hawks on Saturday before meeting fellow varsity side Strathmore
Swords on Sunday at Nyayo Gymnasium.
Zetech who
finished third last season have so far played five games winning all.
“We are not
pushing the girls so much because the majority of them are young players who
came from division one as you. Every year we lose four to five players but this
year we lost seven players so the team is still young,” Obilo said.
Despite the team
being young, Obilo says they will give a fight to get the wins.
“I believe they
are ready to face our opponents especially Equity, we will give our best as
always even though in terms of maturity we are way behind them but with good
training and preparation, mental toughness I believe we will compete as
required over the weekend,” Obilo added.
