Achieng wants to face Cameron for WBC title
Kenya’s
World Boxing Foundation (WBF) champion Sarah “Ängel of War” Achieng has now
declared that she is ready to go for the WBC super lightweight title and
challenged reigning champion Chantelle Cameron for a battle.
Achieng made
history as the third Kenyan to win a world boxing title when she claimed the
World Boxing Foundation (WBF) title on Saturday.
The reigning
Commonwealth Boxing Council (CBC) super lightweight champion beat Edith Soledad
of Argentina on unanimous points decision of 97-93, 97-92 and 98-92 in a
10-round contest held at the Charter Hall, Nairobi.
“I am
calling upon Cameron to face me in the ring. I believe my victory is a big statement
that I can challenge for something big. My coach Alfred “Priest” Analo has
really worked hard on my training regime to ensure that I deliver this sweet
victory,” said Achieng.
Achieng is
now ranked among Kenyan best female boxers alongside Fatuma Zarika, who once
held the World Boxing Council (WBC) world female super-bantamweight title and
Conjestina “Hands of Stone” Achieng who won the WBF and Women’s International
Boxing Federation (WIBF) titles.
The
34-year-old boasts an impressive record of 16 wins and two losses (16-2) and holds
four belts - the WBF, CBC, Universal Boxing Organisation (UBO) and the Kenyan
title.
