'A joke!': Gaspo accuse Simba of tapping up Wambui
Gaspo FC have
accused Simba Queens of tapping up their player Elizabeth Wambui who has now requested
to be released by the Kenya Women Premier League club.
Gaspo
chairman Edward Githua told Citizen Digital in an exclusive interview that he believes
the player has been induced by the Tanzanian champions to break his contractual
relationship with the club.
Githua
admitted receiving verbal communication from Simba Queens manager Selemani
Makanya to show interest in the player but nothing was agreed.
Simba Queens
have also not submitted any written formal request over the transfer nor to
approach the player who remains contracted to Gaspo until December 2024.
“Simba are
just playing dirty games and we won’t let them get away with it. I can’t say we
do not want to let our player go but the right procedures have to be followed.
“We are the
ones who nurtured Wambui since we spotted her in school and the level she is
now is because of the platform she has get in Gaspo; so Simba should respect that
and follow the right channel,” Githua said.
Wambui, who was
a key figure for Gaspo as they finished second in the league last season, is
currently on loan with Burundi champions Buja Queens.
She is
joined by another Kenyan Diana Wacera and together are taking part in the
ongoing CAF Women's Champions League CECAFA Zonal Qualifiers, in Kampala,
Uganda.
On his part,
Makanya said it was unfair for Gaspo to hold on to Wambui whom he claimed had
not been paid her wages for the whole of last season.
“We have
tried to convince Githua to release the player in vain. I don’t see any reason
for him not to release her, since that she hasn’t been paid her for the whole
of last season. The player has complained to me that she hasn’t been paid for
long and that she is tired with the club and all she wants is to join Simba.
“As Simba,
we will not pay for development fee nor transfer fee for a player who was not
paid by his parent club as per her professional contract. Why should we pay for
that since she was wasted in Gaspo?”
Githua maintains Wambui is only owed Sh12,000 which was for one match and half she played last season and called Simba’s allegations ‘a joke’.
Wambui’s loan
contract with Buja Queens is scheduled to expire in the end of this month.
