Nyakach police given shoot-to-kill order amid rising insecurity
Security agencies
in Nyakach have been given a shoot-to-kill order due to rising insecurity that
caused the death of one person earlier this week.
The directive was
announced by Nyakach Deputy County Commissioner Job Adunda, who said incessant
cattle rustling has escalated, leading to the loss of life.
This comes even as
four robbery suspects were apprehended in Kisumu East following an operation by
officers who recovered items of unknown value.
One person was
attacked at his house in Ngege village on Thursday and killed by suspected
rustlers following his efforts to weed out the vice by reporting suspected
offenders to the authorities.
"They are
intent on killing our people and taking our livestock. We have said, and we
have given instructions to our security officers, to shoot to kill those who
are armed and have the intent to kill innocent people," said Adunda.
"Even that
shoot-to-kill order, I think it will tame this banditry, and we want them to be
serious with what they said because we are tired of losing lives—innocent
people—and we are tired of losing livestock," a resident, Joseph Were,
noted.
Meanwhile, four
robbery suspects were detained at the Kasagam Police Station after they were
apprehended on Friday night.
The four were
caught following a sting operation organized by a multi-agency unit, where an
assortment of items, including electronics, household items, and even shoes,
were recovered in two hideouts in Obunga and Nyamasaria estates.
"We have
intensified patrols, and we have recalled all officers who were on annual leave
for synergy. We really do not want any criminals, and we thank members of the
public who are giving us reports," Kisumu East OCPD Edward
Masibo said.
The four are
assisting police with investigations pending arraignment.
