Ugenya Member of
Parliament David Ochieng has slammed Azimio la Umoja One Kenya coalition party
leader Raila Odinga, maintaining that he will not be intimidated to withdraw
his support for the government.
Speaking at the
Sega polytechnic grounds while distributing CDF bursary cheques on Saturday,
Ochieng - who is a staunch supporter of President William Ruto - said he will continue
to speak his mind openly and would not be muzzled by the Azimio chief or
anybody else.
He told off Mr. Odinga
saying it is now time for the people of the region to adopt new leadership,
adding that the former premier’s time is long gone.
“Nitaongea na kama
mbaya, mbaya….kama sawa, sawa. “Everyone lives their life once…it is our age
and our time, not his time. His time is long passed,” said the Movement for
Democracy and Growth (MDG) party leader.
The legislator
reiterated his focus to rebuild his own political career saying he will not
play second fiddle to the opposition leader in Nyanza.
He, at the same
time, appealed to Nyanza residents to shun the planned Azimio protests and
instead shift their focus on their farms during this rainy season.
Despite noting
that he is not against the planned protests, the MP underscored that they will
not add any value to the people’s lives, further stating that it will be
foolhardy for Kenyans who have been praying and waiting for rains to waste time
rioting instead of farming.
“I don’t see any
problem with protests. But if you are demonstrating because of food, and the
food comes from the shamba…now when the rains fall, you leave the shamba and go
to protest. Where is your brain?” He posed.
“I want to plead
with every person in Nyanza that these rains are short. Let us go to
demonstrations after doing our farms.”
