‘Your jobs are safe, but do not take political sides anymore’, Ruto tells public servants

Speaking Wednesday during his first meeting with the Kenya Kwanza Alliance elected leaders at his Karen residence in Nairobi, Dr. Ruto termed public servants’ involvement in politics as unprofessional and an abuse of office. 

“I am asking all public servants who have been forced to take public positions in the just-concluded General Elections to step back and be professional public servants and serve all Kenyans equally,” said Ruto.

The president-elect said that under his administration, public servants will be expected to focus on their offices and leave politics to political players.

“Public servants from the top town to the chiefs and their assistants; we will be expecting them to serve people equally without favouring people on the basis of their political affiliations,” he noted.

“Political business will be carried out by political actors. Political parties must organise themselves and their structures. Members of the public service will not be available to carry out political work for any political party. It is the only way we can have a government that delivers.”

The Kenya Kwanza leader further vowed that his government will be transparent and accountable, where all Cabinet Secretaries will be appearing before Parliament to be grilled on activities in their respective dockets.

“We will be running a democratic, transparent but accountable government,” he stated.

Ruto at the same time congratulated all political aspirants in the Kenya Kwanza outfit who secured seats in the August 9 General Election. 

“We thank God that this has been made possible. We went into elections knowing we had a competitive election and I thank each member of this team,” he added.

The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) on Tuesday gazetted Dr.Ruto as the duly-elected President.

His running mate, Rigathi Gachagua, was also gazetted as the Deputy President-elect.
