You would be a fool to come in between Raila and I - Moses Kuria
Public Service Cabinet
Secretary (CS) Moses Kuria has opined that his relationship with Azimio leader
Raila Odinga is strong, in that no one can come in between them.
Appearing on Citizen TV's JKLive
Show on Wednesday October 8, Kuria said that his differences with Raila are
strictly political, as they have a good relationship outside politics.
“I do not know how on earth
someone could come between me and Raila Odinga. If you try to come between me
and Raila Odinga, you will be a fool, because he is my friend,” said Kuria.
Kuria said that his public differences
with Raila in July was as a result of the anti-government protests, which were destroying
the economy.
Kuria expressed an unwavering
stance on the Azimio la Umoja-led protests, which he considered a great
interference with Kenya's economy, a sector that fell under his docket at the
time.
“We were in the middle of our
politics, as you say or maandamano. I only said what I said about those people
who were demonstrating,” Kuria said.
Moses Kuria had previously
boasted of a deep connection with the Odinga family spanning three decades,
dating back to 1994 when Jaramogi Oginga Odinga supported him during a
university expulsion threat.
The Public Service CS also
addressed his absence from a trade meeting held at State House in July, when US
Trade Representative Ambassador Katherine Tai was in the country to discuss a trade
pact between Kenya and the US.
Then, it was alleged that Kuria
was facing sanctions from the US over his public conduct.
However, Kuria says the American
embassy advisory had nothing to do with him as a person, but his sentiments
towards the demonstrations.
He accused Ambassador Tai of
creating the misunderstanding.
“The US Representative has been a great friend of mine right from day one. When she came here, we were in the middle of our politics and maandamano and somebody did not like what I said about those people who were demonstrating and the American embassy gave that advisory that they don't want to deal with me," Kuria said.
