‘You can’t do everything, get a team!’ Sabina Chege tells President Ruto
Nominated Member of Parliament Sabina Chege has faulted President William Ruto for what she calls doing everything instead of
delegating duties.
Chege said President Ruto “seems to be
doing everything; the one making decisions, the one going to the ground to
launch projects, and the one convincing people.”
“He needs a team,” the nominated MP told
Spice FM in a Thursday interview, likening the Head of State to being in the
kitchen “cooking, serving, washing dishes and also advising himself.”
Specifically, she took issue with Ruto’s
trips across the country where he has been launching trips, saying that should
be reserved for Cabinet Secretaries and Principal Secretaries.
“He needs people who can work for him. Let
the Cabinet Secretaries go and launch those projects, and let the Principal
Secretaries do the feasibility studies,” Chege said.
Instead, the former Murang’a Woman
Representative argued, Ruto should “focus on higher-level responsibilities”
like chairing the Cabinet.
She advised the President to “take some
time off,” warning that if he continues with his packed schedule, “at one point
he will break down and make some decisions that are not good because of pressure.”
“He is human, not a machine and can’t
handle everything,” she said.
Chege further told Ruto to get a team that
has “a touch on the ground” and knows what Kenyans want from the current
administration, not merely people with “theory and studies.”
