In a public statement, PPB said that the vaginal pearls, which are also referred to as herbal tampons or cleansing pearls, are not authorized for use in Kenya.
“Their usage poses potential public health risks as the PPB cannot guarantee their quality, safety or efficacy,” the poisons board warned.
PPB warned against the distribution, supply, sale or use of Yoni Pearls, and any other unregistered products with similar claims.
It urged members of the public and healthcare providers to report all suspicious health products and technologies to the Board.
The notice follows a craze among women, who have been using Yoni Pearls to contain recurrent vaginal infections.
Other women seeking answers to reproductive health complications such as ovarian cysts and infertility have also sought refuge in the vaginal pearls.
Three pieces of the product is currently being sold at Ksh.650 on online stores.
A woman is advised to insert the tampon in their vagina, and pull out after two days.
