Women Governors hold historic G7 summit in Kwale county

During the summit, the governors will inspect several key development projects, including the official opening of the Kwale Oncology Centre at Kwale Hospital, a visit to the Kwale Audio Visual Studio, an inspection of the Kwale Stadium, and the establishment of an Intensive Care Unit at Kinango Sub-County Hospital.

All seven female governors in Kenya have gathered in Kwale County for the G7 Summit, marking the first time the event is being hosted in the region.

The summit, hosted by Kwale Governor Fatuma Achani, includes her fellow governors Anne Waiguru (Kirinyaga), Cecily Mbarire (Embu), Wavinya Ndeti (Machakos), Kawira Mwangaza (Meru), Susan Kihika (Nakuru), and Gladys Wanga (Homa Bay).

The event will culminate with a general meeting at Bang'a Teachers Training College.

The G7 Summit is an opportunity to promote women's leadership in Kenyan politics. The summit aims to encourage more women to get involved in politics, with the goal of increasing the number of female governors from seven to 24 by 2027.

This initiative is part of a larger effort to address gender disparities in political representation across the country.

Women governors have made significant strides in Kenyan politics, particularly since the 2022 general elections, when the country elected the most female governors in its history.

The summit reflects the growing momentum for gender equality and female representation in leadership positions.

Women hold only a small proportion of the 47 governorship positions, but their presence has sparked a movement to achieve more balanced political representation in future elections.
