Woman with over 200 boxes of counterfeit alcohol arrested in Ruai

In the ongoing operation on high-level tax evasion schemes by traders dealing in alcoholic products, police have recovered 200 bottles of counterfeit alcohol in Ruai, Nairobi.

The operation conducted on Monday led detectives to a residential property where more than 200 boxes stashed with unlicensed liquor were found.

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) noted that Teresia Nyokabi Ngatia was apprehended in the raid as she was found with the boxes believed to be destined for local stores.

"The counterfeited drinks whose safety to consumers could not be immediately ascertained, were packaged in branded bottles that are popular locally including, Kane Extra, Trace Vodka, Konyagi, Blue Ice, Kibao Vodka and Chrome Vodka among others," wrote DCI on Twitter.

The bottles were also discovered to be affixed with fake Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) stamps.

Police recovered more fake unused KRA stamps and an alcohol mixer.

Meanwhile, Ngatia will remain in police custody at Kamulu police awaiting arraignment.

The latest follows another raid conducted in Thika where police recovered 300 boxes of alcohol.

The operation follows a directive from President William Ruto to tame crooked businessmen who have devised new ways of evading taxation.
