Woman on the run after kidnapping her own son to get Ksh.158K from husband

Police in Kampala, Uganda, are hunting for a woman who kidnapped her own son with the aim of extorting at least Ushs. 4 million (Ksh. 158,000) from her husband.

Justin Namuleme is on the run after lying to her husband, Stephen Wasinga, about kidnappers taking their five-year-old son and demanding money.

A distraught Wasinga rushed to a nearby police station and filed a missing child report, but when he returned home, he discovered a note on his doorstep instructing him to send the money without involving the police. Namuleme was in the house.

Wasinga, however, returned to the police and reported the new information.

His wife was then called in to give an account of how the note was delivered to the door and how the child in her care went missing.

It was at the police station that Namuleme contradicted herself further as the interrogation continued.

When she sensed she had been cornered, she escaped through the back door and went missing.

The son was returned by unknown bodaboda rider who dropped him at the gate.

Wasinga said his wife has been taking loans from unknown people and he suspects she pulled the criminal act to get money to repay the loans.

"I have seen several people coming to our home inquiring about my wife and demanding money from her. I don't understand the reason for these loans and now I'm suspicious she intended to acquire money through ransom to clear the debts," Wasinga said as quoted by Monitor.
