Woman arrested at Kangemi club in NACADA crackdown
This is after NACADA teams conducted an operation in Kangemi following complaints from area residents.
The operation targeted three bars operating within the Kihumbuini area and situated next to Kihumbuini Primary School.
"During the operation, an outlet named Jey Jey Club was found to be operating without a liquor license and offering for sale products with an alleged suspended KEBS permit," the statement read in part.
The female bartender operating the club was apprehended and taken to Jogoo Road Police Station. She is awaiting further processing and arraignment in court.
NACADA appealed to Kenyans to continue sharing information that would aid in their operations.
Launched in 2001, NACADA aims to reduce the demand for alcohol and drugs by sensitising the public and providing rehabilitation services.
A report by the Authority in 2022 revealed that one in every eight Kenyans aged 15-65 years are addicted to alcohol.
Overall, the Western region had the highest use at 23.8 per cent followed by Coast 12.9 per cent and Central at 12.8 per cent.
To mitigate the use, NACADA recommended enhanced collaboration between national and county governments to scale up efforts in controlling the production, distribution, sale and consumption of illicit brews.
