Wilson Sossion weighs in on politicians lacking academic credentials
Nominated
MP and former KNUT Secretary General Wilson Sossion says that there are loopholes in the Education system in Kenya.
This,
Sossion says, has enabled untrained personalities to take up political leadership
without the required academic credentials.
“Without
mentioning names, that tells us about our governance systems in making sure
there is due diligence in the documentation of individuals and ensuring we meet
minimum standards. This is the highest level of intellectual dishonesty in this
country,” Sossion said on KTN News.
Sossion
added that allowing characters with questionable academic credentials to occupy
offices that they do not qualify for is a mockery of the sector.
The MP said
there have been cases of candidates lacking academic credentials in every
election cycle, hence the reason why there are crooks occupying top offices.
“Matiang’i the other day said we might have
40% of conmen getting elected to parliament. We must set stringent rules, once the
constitution gives clarity about minimum qualifications, so be it.”
Sossion said
it is the responsibility of IEBC and political parties to present the right
candidates to voters.
His
sentiments come amid a hullabaloo about Nairobi Senator Johnson Sakaja’sacademic qualifications.
Despite being cleared by IEBC to contest for Nairobi governorship, reports indicate that Sakaja does not have a credible University Degree Certificate.
