Willis Ayieko murder: Family hails Gov’t for efforts to bring his killers to book
The family of the late Wells Fargo Company’s
Human Resource Manager Willis Ayieko has hailed the government for its efforts
in bringing his killers to justice.
Speaking during a candlelight vigil held in
Ayieko's memory on Friday evening, his elder brother Aggrey Onyango expressed
gratitude for the actions taken by government agencies so far.
However, Mr. Onyango, the former Chairman of
the now defunct Siaya County Council, emphasized the family's demand to know
the person behind his younger brother's brutal murder.
"I had said and will still say - who is
this man who wanted Willis dead?" he posed.
Siaya County Executive Committee Member (CECM)
for Agriculture Sylvester K’Okoth described the late Ayieko as a gentleman who
avoided conflicts.
"Willis was a fine gentleman who would
never engage in altercations. He would calmly use diplomatic language, so we
don’t escalate or create tensions within the forum," said K’Okoth.
Dr. Edgar Otumba, Siaya’s Education CECM and
a former Kenyatta University classmate of Ayieko, condemned the cruelty
inflicted upon his friend.
"Why do you have to maim somebody that
way, for whatever reason?" he questioned.
Ayieko was reported missing on October 18,
2024, after attending a funeral vigil in Gem. His body was discovered on
October 23, 2024, in a stream on the Siaya-Kakamega boundary.
Two suspects have since been arrested, and
two others killed in a shootout with detectives investigating the case.
