Wetangula slams Azimio members opposing 'broad-based gov't'
A section of politicians allied to Kenya kwanza have launched a scathing attack on a section of Azimio leaders opposed to the national dialogue and the formation of a government of national unity spearheaded by President William Ruto and Azimio leader Raila Odinga.
Led by National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetangula, the leaders dismissed a meeting slated for Monday in Kakamega to chart their political destiny.
Speaking in Webuye East Constituency during the commissioning of Magemo TTI, they hailed Odinga and President Ruto's efforts over the formation of a government of national unity.
"You all saw a month ago, nchi iliyumbayumba; you saw us being attacked by youths in Parliament and destroyed property. But now we are seeing the feeling rising out of the ashes and the country is on a trajectory of healing," said Wetangula.
"We thank the Kenya Kwanza government and Mzee Raila and his ODM party for agreeing that Kenya is bigger than individuals and that we can build a better Kenya. We thank them because this is the only way we can heal our country."
He added, "Those youths making noise, you've seen the president has nominated people from Nyanza, the Coast and Mt Kenya, their people are all rejoicing and dancing. For those of us who are making noise, respect in leadership starts with you respecting yourself, respecting the country, electorates so that you will also be respected."
Speaking elsewhere, DAP-K Party leader Eugene Wamalwa has maintained his stand saying he's not interested in sharing political slots stating that the only seat he can be offered is that of the Presidency.
"I was the Minister for Justice, the AG position is a demotion and I have no interest in any Cabinet position from President Ruto. During the time of Uhuru Kenyatta, I was in charge of all governors as the CS for Devolution. I don't need any position or money from Ruto. The only thing I want from Ruto he cannot give me because I only want the presidency," Wamalwa said.
He stated that those who were offered cabinet positions are being used to sanitize the ills.
"I only want us to join Gen Gzs tushukishe Zakayo. For those of us who are joining the Cabinet, we say that we are not boarding! It is a matter of supreme irony that Azimio which is supposed to hold accountable the corrupt government is being used as sanitizer of a failed regime. The mess in the Treasury or Energy, we are supposed to be holding them accountable but instead, we are going to clean it for them."
He asked ODM SG Edwin Sifuna to jump ship and join DAP-K instead of being humiliated by the ODM party.
Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya expressed similar sentiments pointing out that those who accepted the Cabinet slots betrayed the Azimio coalition adding that despite having Musalia Mudavadi and Moses Wetangula in the Kenya Kwanza government, the Mulembe community did not benefit in the recent Cabinet nominee slots
This was even after residents of Kakamega took to the streets in the morning with Isukuti dances to celebrate the nomination of Wycliffe Opanya as the Cs nominee for Cooperatives.
