Wetangula names National Assembly’s majority, minority leaders
National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetangula on Thursday
declared Kenya Kwanza alliance as the majority in the House and Azimio la Umoja
One Kenya coalition party as the minority.
The move
thereafter led to the announcement of the new National Assembly leadership as
had been proposed by both parties.
Kikuyu MP
Kimani Ichung’wah, from the President William Ruto-led Kenya Kwanza, hence
takes up the Majority Leader position, while Azimio’s Opiyo Wandayi becomes the
Minority Leader of the 13th Parliament.

thus ordered leaders of both the majority and minority to select and present
their members for appointment to various committees by Tuesday next week.
“With
respect to the House Business Committee, the leader of the majority party,
Kimani Ichung’wah, and the leader of the minority party, Opiyo Wandayi, are
directed to submit not more than four members each to my office latest by 10am on
Tuesday October 11, 2022.”
“With respect
to the composition of the Committee on Selection, the leader of the majority
party and the leader of the minority party are to submit 10 and 9 members
respectively to my office by the same date.”
“With respect
to the composition of the Committee on Appointments, the leader of the majority
party and the leader of the minority party are to submit not more than 7 members
respectively to my office latest by 10am on Tuesday October 11, 2022.”
