Led by National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetangula and Defence Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale, the leaders who spoke in Fafi constituency, Garissa County during the launch of projects funded through NG-CDF, said Odinga has the required qualifications for the job and urged President William Ruto to kick start shuttle diplomacy across the continent to woo other leaders to support Odinga.
“This is the turn for Kenya. Na hiyo kazi tutamuunga mkono kikamilifu, kwa sababu si yake, ni ya Kenya. And he is going to be Kenya’s candidate and we shall support him unequivocally and unconditionally and become the chairman of the AUC,” Wetangula said.
“Tumeamua kauli moja, kama mkenya wetu, mzee wetu, ambaye is over qualified, ametafuta kazi hiyo, sisi kama serikali, sisi kama wakenya, tuna jukumu moja ya kusaidia huyo mzee apate hiyo kazi,” Duale added.
At the same time, another section of ODM party leaders have also backed the Azimio chief's bid to vie for the Africa Union Commission chairmanship.
Speaking at Kolal Village, Kasipul Kabondo constituency in Homa Bay county during the funeral service of Alice Opee, sister to Ramogi TV news editor Kenn Muga, the leaders expressed their confidence in Raila to bid for the seat saying he was the most qualified to lead the continent into prosperity and unity.
“We are looking for a Pan-Africanist in the leadership of this Africa. People who will unite us as Africans not as Kalenjins or Kikuyus or Luos. We are looking for people who will think big in the intercontinental regions,” Ruaraka MP TJ Kajwang' said.
Nyamira Senator Okong'o Omogeni also expressed his support and warned that Raila's exit from Kenyan politics won't weaken the opposition in defending mwananchi against oppressive decisions by the government.
