Six people have been killed at Lochacha
village in West Pokot County following an alleged stand-off between cattle
rustlers and area residents on Monday night.
According to the residents, three locals who
were pursuing cattle rustlers were allegedly killed by KDF officers while the
residents managed to kill the three rustlers who had made away with an unknown
number of goats.
Confirming the incident, West Pokot County Police
Commander Peter Katam revealed that investigations into the matter have
started, vowing to crack the whip on those who engage in criminal activities.
At least 16 other people who were injured in
the stand-off have been admitted at various hospitals nursing head injuries and
broken limbs.
Area resident
Moses Domonyang said; “Walikuwa wanataka kuchukua mbuzi lakini watu wakaanza
kuwafuata...sasa ile harakati ya kufuata ndio sasa KDF waliona watu wengi
wamekusanyika mahali moja wakaweka drone juu na wakatupa hapo bomb kubwa sana.”
West Pokot Deputy Governor Robert Komole stated: “President Ruto we request you to kindly address the issue...we have spoken about the NPR for a very long time but there is not attention that is being given to that effect.”
