‘We will support Kalonzo,’ Raila hints at Azimio's 2027 plan as he blasts Ruto
Opposition leader Raila Odinga has hit out at President William Ruto for what he terms as meddling
in Azimio La Umoja One Kenya coalition party’s affairs.
Speaking
at Siaya senator Oburu Oginga’s birthday celebration in Bondo, Siaya
County on Sunday, Odinga accused President Ruto of trying to divide the
coalition through unfounded speculations about Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka's presidential candidacy in the 2027 general election.
Odinga
spoke to the president’s recent remarks that he will only have Mr Musyoka to
run against come 2027, telling Ruto to stop belittling the Wiper leader.
He maintained
that Azimio is intact and that the decision on who will be its next flagbearer
shall only be made at an appropriate time.
“He is
speaking about Kalonzo Musyoka as if they are equals, he (Musyoka)is far better than
him (Ruto). He wants to divide us with talk about who will run for the
presidency, yet we ourselves have not announced anything. We will show him he
knows nothing; we will stand with Kalonzo because he is an honest person,” he
said.
On his
part, Musyoka warned the President that he should stop talking about issues of
the 2027 general elections when the contentious issues around the 2022 general
elections have not been resolved.
He
added that the person who will face President Ruto in the next election will
have a walkover because Kenyans are already fed up with the Kenya Kwanza
regime.
“Whoever will stand for the presidency in the next
elections will have a walkover, a walk in the park. Kenyans are fed up because
this is not a government they can trust,” the Wiper leader said.
