Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has pleaded with the youth to stop the nationwide anti-government protests saying their issues have been heard and are being addressed.

Speaking in Mwea, Kirinyaga County on Saturday, the Deputy President told the youth that criminals are taking advantage of the protests to loot and destroy properties, thus the need to halt the demonstrations.

He reiterated that his boss President William Ruto and the entire government would heed to the demands of the Gen Zs, urging them to await action from the current regime.

“We respect the Gen Zs and what you are saying, we are listening…you have spoken and we have heard you. Please Gen Zs, my children, my sons and daughters, we have heard you, you have spoken clearly; what you have said needs no full stop or comma. But when you continue, criminals are hijacking the protests,” Gachagua said.

“So we want to ask you, please don't allow your protest to be hijacked by criminals, people with criminal intention, to steal and destroy properties. I think what you have said is now enough, we don’t need to say anything more. The President has heard, the government and everybody else has heard; now let's wait for action.”

The DP, who spoke at the Pentecostal Evangelistic Fellowship of Africa (PEFA) Church at the Mwea Cathedral during Consecration and Installation of the Regional Bishop Samuel Karimi, said Gen Zs have good intentions but their protests have been hijacked by bad people with criminal plans to cause mayhem.

He at the same time emphasised his stance on the fight against drug abuse and illicit brew saying anybody who attempts to manufacture second-generation alcohol will be arrested and charged.

“23 people died in Kangai Village. We will not allow the reintroduction of alcohol to kill people and nobody is above the law,” he noted.

Gachagua said he would continue preaching unity in the Mt. Kenya region since it was the key to economic prosperity.
