'We are ready for the repercussions' - Kindiki defends government's unpopular decisions

Speaking during a meeting with Kenyan representatives living in Windhoek, Namibia, the DP said that the government is committed to streamline critical sectors to cure the ailing economy, even if it will take the adoption of unpopular positions. 

The second-in-command added that some of these interventions will be made in the Micro, Small and Medium Eterprises (MSMEs), Agriculture, Livestock, Fisheries and Mining sectors.

"Those are the sectors we are transforming to bring more money to the pockets of Kenyans again through difficult, painful and unpopular decisions," he said.

"We are slowly heading there and we are prepared for the repercussions because transformation is costly. As long as he (President Ruto) is president, he must do whatever it takes to do the heavy lifting for the country."

DP Kindiki went on to elucidate that the State is willing to welcome any counsel from different professionals on how to adopt the best policies, admitting that the government does not always get it right on some decisions.

"We may not have perfect ideas but we have an idea on what we need to do to take the country forward. We are asking those who have a contrary view to give alternative policy position," he added.

"We must stop this trivialisation of national discourse into tribes and small issues. I would want those disagreeing with us to say this is the policy and this is our position. That is how you mature a democracy."

He also noted that the government is undertaking significant steps to bolster the economy and the quality of life for Kenyans including the diaspora community. 

Kindiki also lauded the diaspora community for aiding Kenya's development through rising remittances, noting that they have significantly become the nation's top foreign exchange earner. 

"We thank you for what you are doing for our country. You play a huge role in developing our country. You have overtaken tea, tourism and horticulture which for the last 30/40 years have been the leading remittances for Kenya," Kindiki noted.

"Remittances now are scaling up towards Ksh.500 billion. Our target in the Kenya Kwanza manifesto is to get to Ksh.1 trillion."

Kindiki asserted that the government is also making strides in availing more opportunities for Kenyans in Namibia by strengthening bilateral ties.

He assured the Kenyans in Namibia that all their laments will be swiftly addressed, urging them to support President Ruto in achieving his ambitious plan.

"We have some ideas, they are not just from nowhere. We have a manifesto on which we were elected."
