Watamu residents in Kilifi County have raised concerns over the rise in insecurity and are calling upon the government to enhance security during this festive season.

This follows an incident on Friday morning where visitors were allegedly harassed by security officers.

The residents claim that security personnel have been neglecting their duties, leading to the increase in harassment of both locals and visitors.

"Tukaenda starehe zetu Watamu na tukafanya sherehe. Kurudi kwetu, moja wetu akakalia pikipiki, tulipofika gate ya hoteli, ndo hao polisi wakasema tusiingie, kutoka hapo, ikazidi kuwa mbaya," Fred Kamau, a visitor at Watamu said.

Watamu residents called on police officers to enhance security during the holiday season.

"Usalama inahitajika kuimarika kulingana na hali ya watalii kuongezeka," John Msafiri, a resident, noted.
