Wanton waste on display as more Kenyans tour and uncover dead gov't projects

After borrowing inspiration from lawyer and businessman Morara Kebaso, more and more Kenyans are now taking it upon themselves to reveal the wanton excesses undertaken by the Kenyan government in the name of 'development projects'.

Not just content with sitting at home as lies continue to be peddled online, these Kenyans, from all walks of life, have been sparing a few hours in their day to tour various projects which have since died or never even kicked off in the first place - and reporting the status in real-time.

Tuesday evening, after State House attempted to rubbish Morara's findings, one Kenyan decided to set the record straight by physically visiting the location of a road which Spokesperson Hussein Mohammed had claimed was still under construction and was nearing completion.

Reacting to a tweet from X user Eve Maina, who encouraged a local in Kisii to visit the said road and report the progress, one user, going by the username @21Rockefeller, accepted the challenge, saying, "Today I will be on site the whole day and inspect the entire road. I will post everything on here!"

Minutes later, Kenyans jumped on the tweet, urging him on and promising to financially boost his movements.

Veteran journalist Saddique Shaban wrote, "Harakisha bwana. The Lord's Work needs no delays. Full tank, to and from your location on that motorbike."

"Get company of another bodaboda and a friend for maximum common rail injection. We're fueling y'all today!"

Not too long after, the man, who quickly hired a motorbike to help him navigate the rugged terrain, started sharing photos which directly contradicted Mohammed's claims.

His activities actually boiled over into the following day, as he continued traversing the expansive County and updating Kenyans on roads ostensibly launched by President William Ruto and several dead ones which were already launched by President Uhuru Kenyatta during the early years of his second tenure.

"The people I interviewed raised issues of stalling/incompletion of the project like in 2016. They said that the projects are used by the government to steal because money is always allocated but the projects are poorly done or left incomplete..." he wrote.

On the other side of the country, in Makueni to be specific, yet another Kenyan was busy keeping the current and previous governments in check.

While touring the site of an Affordable Housing project initiated under President Uhuru Kenyatta in Wote, Makueni County, X user Boss Yator responded to a 3rd November 2018 tweet by then-Housing Principal Secretary Charles Hinga who had shared photos of himself and his team inspecting the housing developments.

Six years later, Yator has revealed that the Housing program in Wote actually never took off - he backed up his revelations by attaching several photos which clearly show the stalled construction, crumbling concrete and overgrown bushes.

"Reporting Live! I couldn't squander this opportunity. Bwana Hinga come outside!" he wrote.

Even before the Makueni situation sank in the minds of Kenyans, yet another Kenyan was on duty at yet another abandoned project, this time, the Maasai Lodge-Nazarene-Olekasasi-SGR-Rimpa Road in Ongata Rongai which President Ruto launched on 23rd April 2023.

While attaching photos and videos which clearly show a neglected, dusty road with no clear markings or even road signs, he wrote: "As promised no works done on the road and the money budgeted for it is close to a billion Kenya shillings!"

While speaking in one of the videos, he says: "This is the road coming from the SGR station headed to Kandisi on your right and Maasai Lodge on your left. Ksh. 418 million was assigned for this road for the year 2022/23 and the same for the year 2023/24... budgeted by the county of Kajiado. This road has no grading, no drainage yet the county cannot account for close to Ksh.900 million!"

The soaring increase in random Kenyans fact-checking the government and debunking propaganda was started over a week ago by Morara Kebaso and now, Kenyans from all corners of the country seem invested in the movement - some, like in the Kisii case, are even receiving donations for not just transport but also lunch and 'safety'.
