Wamalwa backs Bishop Muheria, accuses Ruto gov't of being 'PR agency'
Democratic Action Party (DAP-K) leader Eugene Wamalwa has
urged President William Ruto’s administration to focus on fulfilling its unkept
promises instead of turning the government into an "advertising
agency."
Speaking at a funeral in Webuye on Friday, Wamalwa echoed
Nyeri Archbishop Anthony Muheria’s sentiments, criticizing the government for
prioritizing publicity over action.
He accused the state of investing heavily in promoting its
projects rather than implementing them.
"Ni ukweli ya kwamba serikali ya Bwana Ruto is very
good in PR. Wamekuwa huku kwetu siku sita, sio mbali na hapa Ruto alikuja,
nafikiri ilikuwa Lugulu na Hamoni, na akalaunch transformer hapa Webuye East.
Hata post na waya hatukuiona. Na zile ndege alikuja nazo sita, ukichukua ile
pesa alichukua kutoka Nairobi kuja Webuye East, ni mamilioni ya pesa— inashinda
hata ile soko ya shilingi milioni hamsini alifungua. Kwa hivyo tunasema ya kwamba, stop this
PR,” he said.
“Najua ya kwamba watu wake wanamtetesha Bishop Muheria,
wakisema amemkosea heshima kwa kusema serikali yake ni advertising agency. No,
we want to say the Kenya Kwanza government is a PR agency.”
Additionally, the former Defense Cabinet Secretary called on
the IEBC selection panel to expedite the formation of a new electoral body to
oversee upcoming by-elections at the ward and constituency levels.
“Kile nataka kusema ni kwamba, wakati huu Bwana Chebukati ametuacha, tunataka sababu tuko na nafasi ya kihistoria kuleta a better IEBC, kuleta a better leadership ya IEBC,” Wamalwa added.
Speaking at the Consolata Mathari Hospital Muheria slammed the government stating that the State is notorious for pouring all its
resources into talking about its projects instead of actually implementing
them.
"There has to be less rhetoric. We have to stop
advertising what you will do. Act! The government is not an advertising agency.
It is an agency that implements actions, that’s what we want to see," he
said.
"We want a government that follows rules and systems, not one that puts all its machinery into advertising. How I wish we could shelve all these insults, noise and demeaning statements and begin to appreciate one another."
President Ruto, his deputy Prof. Kithure Kindiki and other government allies later hit back at the Archbishop saying they will not stop telling Kenyans the multiple projects and programs worth billions of shillings it is implementing to improve their lives.
They maintained that it is their constitutional duty to clearly and comprehensively elaborate
to all Kenyans what they are doing to develop the nation.
“We are determined to have a united and equitable nation. We will continue telling Kenyans what we are doing as a government. It is not our fault, we are discharging what our Constitution mandates and allows us to do,” said President Ruto during the burial service of Senate Speaker Amason Kingi’s father Mzee Kingi Mwaruwa in Magarini, Kilifi County
