Waiguru warns leaders 'misleading' Mt Kenya to abandon Kenya Kwanza Gov't

Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru

Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru has called on the people of the Mt. Kenya region to reject attempts by some leaders to drag them away from the Kenya Kwanza government.

In what appeared to be a warning to former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua and his allies, Waiguru emphasized that the people of Kirinyaga would not abandon the government for the opposition.

She noted that some "sweet-talking politicians," driven by their own selfish interests, are trying to convince the region to turn against the government.

“We will not go to the opposition just because some people are bitter. What happened in the past has nothing to do with us, and we will not throw the baby out with the bathwater. It is not possible that all leaders are against one person unless that person is the problem. We want our community to be respected everywhere,” Waiguru stated.

She further emphasized that leaders in the region must recognize that public positions are held in trust and should not be used to hold the country at ransom over personal grievances.

"We will not bring down our house because its roof is leaking. We are wise and will stay in the house and repair it. Mt. Kenya voted for this government, and we must support it to benefit from the development projects that are underway," she said.

Waiguru made these remarks while opening a newly constructed dispensary in Kiandai, Ndia, Kirinyaga.

She also urged leaders in the region to cease the ongoing politicking and focus on fulfilling their development promises to the people.

Waiguru highlighted that Kirinyaga is benefiting significantly from various projects initiated in collaboration with the national government. Abandoning the government at this juncture would jeopardize the progress made on these projects.

Regarding the issue of abduction, Waiguru stated that while she does not support such acts, leaders should address the matter through proper channels rather than publicly criticizing the government.

"There are better ways to address the government rather than airing grievances in public, especially when you are part of that government," she said.
