Wafula Chebukati responds to claims that IEBC is biased

At a breakfast meeting on Thursday, Chebukati said that the commission is independent and is committed to exercising fairness in the electoral process.
“We do our work without fear or favour, in accordance with the law, we are not directed by any individual, authority or institution. We are answerable only to the constitution, the law of the land, regulations and policies,” Chebukati said.
He further termed recent media reports linking IEBC to the Kenya Kwanza coalition as untrue and meant to misinform the public.
“ Let us stop misinforming Kenyans, let us work together to have a peaceful election,” he said.
Chebukati’s assurance comes after Raila Odinga-led Azimio la Umoja Coalition accused IEBC of colluding with Kenya Kwanza alliance to stuff ballot boxes on election day.
"We know they wanted to put 10,000 polling stations where they can only get like 200 votes… so as to get 2 million extra votes,” Raila said during a rally in Kiambu County on Wednesday.
He further reiterated the need to have a manual voter register to be used during the polls.
“We must have a manual register along with biometric identification of the voters on that polling day, before that there is no election,” he said.
