Voters line up at a polling station in Kitui constituency on Monday morning, August 29.

Voting in the mini-election has kicked off as polling stations opened at 6am Monday morning.

The 8 elections come after the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) suspended the polls following a mix-up of ballot materials during the August 9th General Election.

Governorship elections are ongoing in Mombasa and Kakamega Counties.

In Mombasa, 641,913 voters will be choosing Governor Johjo's successor among Hassan Omar (UDA) Abdulswamad Nassir (ODM), Daniel Munga Kitsao (Independent), Hezron Awiti (VDP), Said Abdalla (Usawa Kwa Wote), Shafii Makazi (UPIA) and Antony Chitavi (UDP).

Some 844,709 voters in Kakamega will decide on who becomes their next Governor between ANC’s Cleophas Malala, ODM’s Fernandez Baraza, UDP’s Cyrus Jirongo and Samuel Omukoko of MDP party.

Parliamentary elections are also ongoing in Kitui Rural Constituency (Kitui County), Kacheliba Constituency (West Pokot County), Pokot South Constituency (West Pokot County) and Rongai Constituency (Nakuru County).

Elections for Member of County Assembly is ongoing in Kwa Njenga (Embakasi South Constituency - Nairobi County) and Nyaki West (North Imenti Constituency - Meru County).

However there have been concerns of an extensive low voter turnout as only a few voters have showed up at the respective polling stations despite the government announcing a public holiday to allow residents in the aforesaid regions to go and vote.

Here are photos of how the process is going on in the 8 elections.
